I just put NBA Live 2000 in my N64 and it was definitely the best decision I’ll make today. The player ratings are too awesome. Almost everyone in the game is rated between 71 and 79. According to EA Sports in the year 2000, Kevin Garnett is the best player in the NBA, and he’s only a 84. A decade and some change later in NBA 2K12, LeBron James is a 98. I can’t tell if we used to hold virtual athletes to a much higher standard, or if LBJ is really just two percentages away from being a perfect basketball player.
…Or maybe they just threw darts at a white board full of numbers, because Y2K era Shaq is only rated one percentage higher than Keith Van Horn.
That’s the world I want to live in.
